There have been many changes in the paper industry in recent years, which have ultimately reflected the serious changes in the economy and society. Digitisation processes, for example, have led to a sharp decline in the demand for graphic papers and printer papers. On the other hand, the ever-increasing number of people who also order everyday consumer goods over the internet has meant that manufacturers of packaging materials, cardboard boxes and folding cartons have to produce in ever greater quantities.
Increasing environmental awareness and the growing consciousness of the ecological footprint should also be mentioned in this context. The ban on plastic, which applies in more and more areas, has made many producers of paper and cardboard products take action: In the meantime, paper straws, paper carrier bags or biodegradable disposable tableware are becoming part of the product portfolio as a matter of course.
